3 Engine Problems You Should Always Fix at Your Chevy Dealership

Engine problems have a reputation for being expensive and time-consuming to fix. Fortunately, this isn't normally true. Our Chevy-trained technicians and our state-of-the-art technology can fix any possible problem. These are a few examples of issues that your Chevy dealership can fix. Engine Deposits Oil is essential for your engine, as it has the vital task of lubricating all the moving parts. Additives inside the oil are designed to prevent rust and to break down harmful engine deposits that can clog the engine and reduce its efficiency. As the oil ages, it becomes less effective and will contribute to engine troubles. Older oil is thicker and slower as it absorbs dirt and other debris from the engine. Its slow movement enables this debris to be easily transported through the engine, and it will create additional blockages instead of removing them. These blockages can affect the spark plugs, intake valves, and other components. We can remove these blockages by flushing your engine and replacing your oil. Engine Overheating This is potentially one of the most damaging situations for any vehicle. Your engine is in a very hot environment due to constant combustion and the movement of countless engine parts. A high temperature is important, as your engine operates most efficiently between 180 F and 230 F. The temperature needs to be controlled to prevent the heat from building up and damaging sensitive engine components. A leaking radiator, blockages in the cooling system, or a failed water pump are some of the causes of engine overheating. In all these cases, you'll see a sudden rise in your engine temperature. If this happens, it's important to pull over ASAP and allow your engine to cool. Contact us right away, and our expert technicians will investigate and repair the cause of the problem. Timing Chain Failure Older vehicles had timing belts, but your car has a metal timing chain. It functions identically to a timing belt but is more durable and can sustain higher temperatures. The chain runs through your engine and connects the camshaft at the top of the engine to the crankshaft at the bottom of the engine. The chain is carefully calibrated to synchronize the movements of components in the two engine sections. One of its most important functions is to ensure that the cylinders open and close at precise intervals, allowing combustion to take place efficiently. A chain can become worn or damaged over time, and it can slip out of its grooves. This can cause major engine damage. If the chain is damaged, you'll hear strange noises from the engine compartment. We can fix this issue by examining the chain and repairing or replacing it. Problems in an engine get worse and become more expensive to repair as time passes. 5 Signs Your Chevy Needs New Headlights

Headlights play a crucial role in vehicle safety, but over time, they can wear out, reducing their effectiveness and compromising your safety. Here are some signs that it's time to head to your Chevy dealership to get new headlights. 5 Signs It's Time for New Headlights at Your Chevy Dealership Rapid Burnout of Bulbs If you find yourself replacing headlight bulbs frequently, it's a sign that something may be wrong with your Chevy's headlights. Headlight bulbs should have a relatively long lifespan, typically around 500 to 1,000 hours of use. If you're replacing bulbs every few months, it could indicate an underlying issue such as voltage irregularities, a failing ballast, or poor-quality bulbs. Consistent bulb burnout can be frustrating and costly, so it's wise to investigate and address the root cause. Dimming or Flickering Headlights One of the most noticeable signs that your Chevy's headlights need replacement is dimming or flickering. If you notice that your headlights aren't as bright as they used to be, it could be a sign of a failing bulb or a deteriorating electrical connection. Flickering headlights may indicate a loose bulb or a problem with the headlights' wiring. Dim or flickering headlights can significantly reduce your visibility at night, making it essential to address this issue promptly. Yellowed or Cloudy Headlight Lenses Over time, the lenses that cover the headlights can become cloudy or yellow from exposure to UV rays and other environmental factors. This affects the aesthetics of your Chevy and diminishes the effectiveness of your headlights. Cloudy lenses scatter the light, reducing its focus and making it harder to see the road ahead. Uneven Beam Patterns When you turn on your vehicle's headlights, they should produce a uniform and even beam pattern. However, if you notice that the beam is uneven or has dark spots, it's a clear sign that your headlights need attention. Uneven beam patterns can result from a misaligned or damaged headlight assembly and are a sign the headlights might need to be replaced. Reduced Nighttime Visibility Perhaps the most critical sign that your Chevy needs its headlights replaced is reduced nighttime visibility. If you struggle to see the road clearly when driving at night, even with the headlights on their highest setting, it's time to take action. Reduced visibility can result from various factors, including dim or yellowed headlights, a deteriorating reflector, or a failing bulb. Don't compromise your safety and the safety of others on the road, replace your headlights promptly to restore optimal visibility. Your Chevy's headlights are vital for safe driving, especially during nighttime and adverse weather conditions. If you notice any of these signs, give us a call at Cheraw Chevrolet Buick! Our technicians will check everything to make sure that your Chevy's headlights are in top-notch condition and replace them if needed.

Time for New Tires? Visit Your Chevy Dealership

It is common for people to not think about their tires. However, tires that are in good condition are an essential part of the driving experience. Properly inflated tires with adequate tread depth are necessary for good handling and braking. Keep reading to discover if it is time to visit your Chevy dealership for new tires. Depending on several factors, including how often you have your tires rotated and how aggressively you drive, you may need to replace your tires every six years. To keep your tires in good condition for as long as possible, you need to take care of them regularly. For example, you should check your tire pressure monthly. Your tires should remain inflated to the manufacturer-recommended PSI. Another great way to extend the useful life of your tires is to have them rotated at least once annually or every 10,000 miles. Furthermore, you should be mindful when you drive that aggressive acceleration or braking will cause your tires to wear out faster. How Can I Tell Whether My Tires Should Be Replaced? Check Your Tires' Tread Depth One of the clearest signs that it is time to replace your tires is inadequate tread depth. You must replace your tires if the tread of your tires is not at least 1/16" deep. One easy way to identify the depth of your tires is to put a penny in the tread of your tire. The penny should be placed in the tread with President Lincoln's head upside down. If you can see his whole head, your tread is no longer deep enough, and you need a new set of tires. Check Your Tires' Sidewalls You can also tell it is time to replace your tires by looking at their sidewalls. If you see anything bubbling or bulging, a certified Chevy technician should inspect your tires as soon as possible. Bulging in the sidewall indicates the presence of a weak spot in the tire. This can lead to your tire blowing out, especially if you drive over debris in the road. Pay Attention to How Driving Feels You should also replace your tires if driving your vehicle starts to feel different. For example, your tires should be replaced if you can feel your vehicle shaking regardless of the speed at which you drive. As a general rule, you should replace your tires every six years. However, you may need to replace your tires more often if you drive aggressively and don't have them rotated at least every year or 10,000 miles. To determine if your tires should be replaced, schedule an appointment with us at Cheraw Chevrolet.

Does Your Chevy Need a New Car Battery?

Car batteries usually need to be replaced every three to four years. Once your battery passes the three-year mark, it's wise to keep an eye out for the following signs of trouble. If you suspect your battery is starting to fail, head straight to your local Chevy dealer for a new car battery before your vehicle runs into serious electrical problems. Does Your Chevy Need a New Car Battery? Clear Warping in the Battery's Casing Car batteries should always have perfectly straight sides and angles. If you pop the hood to inspect your battery and find that its sides are warping or bulging out of shape, you should have it replaced at once. Cracked and Leaking Battery Casing If a car battery grows old or becomes severely damaged by vibrations, changes in temperature, or internal electrical shorts, it may crack and start to leak battery acid. In this case, you might smell something like rotten eggs. A leaking battery must go. White or Green Corrosion on the Terminals Battery terminals can start corroding over time. If you notice a small amount of white-green corrosion building up on your battery's connectors, you might be able to clean it away with a dry rag or toothbrush and a good cleaning product. However, if corrosion becomes extensive, it prevents the battery from conducting electricity properly and means the battery needs to be replaced. Engine Becomes Reluctant to Start An aging or damaged battery will often struggle to start the car in the morning. Consider replacing your battery as soon as you notice this problem. Otherwise, you might find yourself stranded somewhere, unable to start your engine at all. Several Electronics Start Misbehaving The battery is responsible for powering all your car's electronics, including the dashboard and external lights. If you notice various electronic components acting strangely at the same time, the fault may lie with the underlying electrical supply: the battery. In many modern vehicles, there's a prioritization system when it comes to failing electrical supply. This means the non-essential accessories, such as phone chargers and heated seats, are likely to fail before the vital components like the headlights and spark plugs. Chevy Dealer Suggests Replacing the Battery It's advisable to have your car's electrical system carefully inspected and serviced by qualified technicians at least twice a year. This becomes especially important when your battery is over three years of age. Experienced technicians can thoroughly test your system and battery and repair any problems long before these faults cause you problems on the road. Have your car's battery inspected and replaced today at Cheraw Chevrolet. We're a local full-service dealership that provides a terrific range of new and used vehicles along with attentive, courteous, highly personalized customer service.

Familiarize Yourself with Your Vehicle's Owner's Manual Your car's owner's manual contains all the necessary information regarding your vehicle's maintenance intervals, including the required inspections, corrections, and replacements. It provides valuable information on the dashboard warning lights, the proper oil for your vehicle, and the recommended tire pressure levels. Everything you need to know about taking care of your Chevy and keeping it in good condition is in your car owner's manual. 2. Stick to the Service Schedule and Maintenance Intervals Regular maintenance services are vital if you want your Chevy to remain reliable, fuel-efficient, and safe to drive. If you stick to the service schedule and factory-recommended maintenance intervals in your owner's manual, your Chevy will always be in top condition. With regular maintenance, you will save money on gas and repairs, extend your car's lifespan, and increase its resale value when you sell or trade your vehicle in for a new one. 3. Change the Oil at the Recommended Intervals Regularly changing the engine oil is one of the most critical maintenance tasks and the best thing you can do for your Chevy. The engine oil lubricates the moving components, reduces friction and heat, and cleans and cools the engine. The Oil Life Monitoring System (OLMS) will alert you through a "Change Engine Oil Soon" message when it's time for an oil change. Older models require an oil change every 3,000 to 7,500 miles or every six months, depending on your driving habits and the conditions of the roads you use. 4. Always Use the Proper Oil For Your Vehicle It's essential to use the proper oil to ensure your engine runs optimally. Car AC Not Working? Visit Your Chevy Dealer Today

Car air conditioners function by pumping refrigerant through a compressor, condenser, evaporator, and various other parts and pipes, transforming the refrigerant from a liquid to a gas and back again. If any part of the system malfunctions, you'll no longer be getting cold air into your cabin. Let's look at a few potential reasons why you could find your car AC n o t working, all of which a technician at your local Chevy dealer can repair. The Air Stops Blowing If the air ever stops blowing from the AC vents, the blower motor might have malfunctioned. The motor may be damaged in some way or the power might have been cut due to a faulty relay or blown fuse. Damaged hoses or belts could also stop the flow of air, as could a blockage in the air intake vent. The AC's Leaking Water If you find water dripping under the dashboard, the AC's drain hose might have become blocked. Normally, the drain hose allows the AC's condensation to run out of the system. Sometimes a buildup of mold can clog the hose, forcing the water to find other ways to leak out. The AC's Leaking Refrigerant Refrigerant is vital to the AC's proper functioning. Refrigerant also has a long route to travel through all the AC's hoses, connections, and components.  If any part springs a leak, the refrigerant's cooling process will be interrupted, and your cabin won't be cooling down anymore. If you try to search for a refrigerant leak, you may find an oily, transparent substance congealing around one of the connections. However it's often difficult to locate a refrigerant leak, and technicians use a special fluorescent dye to do so. The Air's No Longer Cold If the AC is only blowing warm or hot air, a failed clutch switch may be preventing the system from turning the refrigerant into gas, which is essential for the cooling process. A clogged or malfunctioning condenser would also interrupt the cooling process, as would a refrigerant leak. The AC Makes Odd Sounds Strange sounds from the AC might indicate the beginning of a more serious problem. A worn-out bearing might begin to grind or squeal before it fails. A failing compressor clutch may make rattling noises, but rattling can also be caused by something as simple as leaves or debris getting trapped in the blower's fans. The Air Smells Mildewy If turning on the AC makes your cabin smell mildewy, you might have a buildup of mold somewhere inside the system. This sometimes happens because there's a lot of moisture inside an AC unit, and it's more likely to occur with AC systems that are rarely used, which gives the mold time to grow. Have your car's AC repaired today at Cheraw Chevrolet. We're a locally trusted dealership with a great range of cars and welcoming, highly trained staff ready to provide for your vehicle purchasing or servicing needs, whatever they may be.

Maximizing Your Chevy's Performance: 5 Compelling Advantages of Regular Tire Rotations

The reason tire rotation is required to keep most tire warranties valid is that regular rotation does so much to prolong the lifespan of your tires. As the driver, you also gain several other significant benefits from having your tires swapped around twice a year, all of which you can learn more about at your local Buick dealer. 5 Benefits of Getting a Tire Rotation for Your Chevy Uniformly Worn Treads Tires should ideally wear down at an even rate because all cars are designed to have wheels of exactly equal size. Unfortunately, some degree of uneven tire wear is inevitable. This is partly because weight is distributed unevenly across the vehicle. An uneven amount of pressure is also applied by the steering, braking, accelerating, and whether your car is fore or rear-wheel drive. Certain underlying problems such as misaligned wheels or suspension, or improperly inflated tires, can also cause uneven tire wear. With regular rotation, you mitigate the problem by keeping all four tires wearing down far more uniformly over time. Longer-Lasting Tires When tires are rotated periodically, it keeps all four tires in better condition. Without rotation, just one or two tires wear down excessively and become unsuitable for use much sooner than they otherwise would. This usually means you'll need to replace the entire set of four more frequently. Reduced Road Risks When just one or two tires become more worn than the others, they also become more susceptible to damage, punctures, blowouts, and skids. By keeping your tires more equal in size, you're also keeping yourself and your passengers safer. Protection of Other Car Parts When tires become significantly uneven, this effectively makes your wheels uneven in size, which puts all kinds of awkward stresses and strains on the connected car parts. Uneven tires can lead to suspension, wheel alignment, and other closely connected parts getting pushed out of shape. This can lead to more frequent problems and repair jobs. Better Handling and Control When your tires become unevenly worn, you'll notice a reduction in the precision of your steering and handling. This gradually diminishes the degree of control you have over your car. Not only does this reduce your driving pleasure, but it also makes your vehicle increasingly unsafe to drive. Smoother, Quieter Driving Uneven tires can also roughen your ride and increase overall road noise. If you notice you're losing the silky smooth, blissfully quiet driving experience your car once provided, your tires might be to blame. Get Your Tires Rotated at Your Local Chevy Dealer For most drivers, twice a year is a suitable interval for having your tires rotated. This usually coincides with routine oil changes and brake inspections. For drivers who regularly use their car in severe driving conditions, more frequent rotations might be required. Have your tires inspected and rotated today by qualified technicians at Cheraw Chevrolet. We’re a trusted local dealership offering the region's drivers top-notch all-American vehicles and courteous, tailored customer service as well.

How Long Has It Been Since Your Chevy's Last Oil Change?

Getting an oil change when needed is one of the most important parts of caring for your vehicle. Chevy cars and trucks need oil and oil filter changes at least once a year, but there are some factors that can make you need to get your oil replaced more frequently. Your Chevy dealer can offer specific advice about your Chevy model, and we'd like to go over the basics below. Factors That Can Influence Oil Change Frequency Engine Wear If your engine has some wear and tear, usually caused by frequently towing heavy loads or driving in stop-and-go traffic, then you might need to get your oil replaced more than once a year. Ask your dealer what they recommend when they're inspecting your engine during your annual service. Oil Type What type of oil your engine needs will be in your owner's manual, as will a suggested oil replacement frequency? Chevy recommends asking your dealer about what oil you need if you no longer have the manual. Some Chevy vehicles use synthetic oil, while others use conventional. Which type of oil your engine requires can influence how often you need to get it changed. Oil Quality If you're not using the right grade of oil for your vehicle, then you're going to notice you've been needing to change it out pretty frequently. Making sure you know the right oil for your engine is vital. Signs You Need to Visit the Chevy Dealer for New Oil ASAP Dark or Dirty Oil Engine oil is supposed to be slightly translucent, slick, and anywhere from amber to dark brown. It naturally gets darker as it cycles through your engine, but it should never become black or impossible to see through. It also shouldn't be gritty or cloudy, as that indicates the oil is dirty and should be changed. Knocking Engine If you hear a knocking sound coming from your engine, then it's a sign that it's time for an oil replacement. Even if the engine isn't making a knocking noise, an increase in how noisy the engine is while running also tells you that you need to change out your oil. Alert on Your Dashboard Modern Chevy vehicles will tell you when you have low oil pressure and need to get your oil replaced. Chevy recommends pulling over and not driving further if you get a warning on your dash telling you that you have low oil pressure, so you'll need to get towed to the dealer if one of these alerts pops up. If it's time for your next oil and oil filter change, then come by Cheraw Chevrolet. We'll also be happy to change out that oil any time you need us to between scheduled changes.

Does Your Chevy Need a Radiator Repair?

The radiator's job is to remove excess heat from your engine. Combustion and hundreds of moving parts generate immense quantities of heat. This must be removed to prevent your engine from overheating. In time, the heat and pressure can damage the radiator. As your Chevy dealer, we'd like you to know a few signs that you need to visit us for a radiator repair. Signs You Need a Radiator Repair at Your Chevy Dealer Coolant Leak Liquid coolant is continually pumped through your engine. As the coolant flows over hot components, it absorbs the radiating heat and transports it to the radiator. The coolant enters rows of thin aluminum tubes in the radiator, and the heat is removed as cool air passes over the tubes. Once the heat is removed, the coolant circulates through the engine again. Coolant is brightly colored to easily distinguish it from other engine fluids. If you spot pink, orange, blue, or yellow fluid underneath your car, you have a coolant leak. A coolant leak will very quickly cause your engine to overheat. We'll investigate the cooling system to find the source of the leak, then we'll permanently seal the hole. Rusted Radiator Your radiator is made from metal and plastic. Like almost all metal, the radiator is susceptible to rust. If rust forms on your radiator, it will quickly eat through the metal and your radiator will fail. If your radiator fails, your engine will rapidly start to overheat. Rust can only form due to a water leak inside the engine, as the radiator is protected against external liquid damage by the hood and the radiator grille. Coolant is a 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze, and it's the only water source in your engine. If your radiator shows signs of rust, you must also have a coolant leak. We can't fix a rusting radiator, but we can replace it. We'll also trace and repair the coolant leak. Damaged Water Pump The water pumps coolant, not water. When your engine temperature reaches a pre-set level, coolant is released into the engine. The pump will start up and move the coolant through the engine at high speed. The pump's speed will vary depending on the engine temperature. When you accelerate, for example, the engine produces more heat, so the pump will speed up in response to enable the coolant to remove the heat faster. A failed water pump can cause serious engine problems. If the pump doesn't work, the coolant won't move through your engine, and the temperature will go up. If the temperature gauge on your dash is rising, your pump might have failed. We'll examine the pump and install a new one if required. Overheating can lead to serious and even permanent engine damage. Call our service department ASAP at Cheraw Chevrolet.

4 Benefits of Getting Car Financing at Your Cheraw Chevy Dealer

Most people choose to finance their car purchase because it allows them to spread the cost of the vehicle over time, making it more affordable than paying the entire purchase price upfront. Financing also provides the convenience of driving a new vehicle sooner without depleting savings or making a substantial cash outlay. Getting car financing at your Cheraw Chevy dealer is convenient, affordable, and quick. 1. Convenient One-Stop Shopping Taking advantage of the financing deals available at your local dealership simplifies the process because you can handle both the vehicle purchase and financing arrangements in a single location. This streamlines the often complex and time-consuming task of securing a car loan separately. By consolidating these tasks, you can reduce the administrative hassle associated with buying a car. Furthermore, the dealership's finance department can provide expert guidance, ensuring that you make well-informed decisions about your vehicle financing options, ultimately making the car-buying experience smoother and more efficient. 2. Special Incentives At your dealership, you can benefit from a range of special incentives that make your car purchase even more affordable. They often include manufacturer-specific promotions like cashback offers or low-interest financing rates. For instance, you might find deals where you receive a cash rebate upon purchasing a specific Chevy model, effectively reducing the overall purchase price. Low-interest financing options can save you money on interest payments over the life of your car loan. Such incentives provide an opportunity to access better terms than you might find through traditional lenders. 3. Trade-In Options Trade-in options available at the dealership can significantly reduce the overall cost of purchasing your new Chevy. When you trade in your existing vehicle, the dealership assesses its value and offers you a credit toward the purchase of your next car. This credit can be applied as a down payment or used to lower the loan amount, effectively making your new car more affordable. Additionally, trade-ins can save you time and effort in selling your old vehicle independently. It's a convenient and cost-effective way to transition to a new Chevy while maximizing the value of your current one. 4. Extended Warranties and Protection Plans Are Available Extended warranties and protection plans offered by your dealership are optional coverage packages that provide additional protection for your vehicle beyond the standard manufacturer's warranty. These plans typically cover repairs and maintenance for an extended period, safeguarding you from unexpected expenses. They can be highly beneficial for individuals who value peace of mind and want to protect their investment.
